He co-founded Microsoft in 1975 with Paul Allen before transitioning to full-time foundation work in 2008. Through his private office, Gates Ventures, he pursues work in climate and clean energy, Alzheimer's and other healthcare research, education, and technology, and he founded Breakthrough Energy and co-founded the Giving Pledge.
