Bert van der Vaart is Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of SEAF, which he helped start in 1989 when it operated as CARE Small Business Assistance Corporation (CARESBAC). He established and led the firm's first fund in Poland, later served as SEAF's CEO and President, and directed the initial phase of SEAF's India Agribusiness Fund from New Delhi. Before SEAF he was a partner at law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a consultant at Bain & Company; he holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and degrees from Oxford (as a Rhodes Scholar) and the University of North Carolina.
