Before joining the Chicago Fed in January 2023, he was the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, which he joined in 1995. He previously chaired the Council of Economic Advisers from 2009 to 2011 and holds a doctorate from MIT and bachelor's and master's degrees from Yale, all in economics.
