TIA is an initiative of South Africa's Department of Science, Technology & Innovation, mandated under the Technology Innovation Act to stimulate and intensify technological innovation in the public interest. It supports the development and commercialization of discoveries, inventions and improvements to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for South Africans. Its funding focus spans advanced manufacturing, agriculture, energy, health, ICT, indigenous knowledge systems, industrial biotech and natural resources, and it operates technology platforms, stations and clusters to support innovation.
