Investment thesis

Kernel Fund invests seed capital in early-stage companies using technology to close economic and infrastructure gaps for consumers and enterprises in sub-Saharan Africa. It backs accomplished founding teams targeting large markets with differentiated products that have at least a minimum viable product and validated, defensible business models. While sector agnostic given the breadth of African market gaps, the fund's initial focus is applying technology to new and existing problems. Its target geographies span West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin), East Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania) and Southern Africa (Zimbabwe, South Africa). Beyond capital, Kernel pairs investments with hands-on strategic advisory to improve founders' odds of success and access to later funding.
