Investment thesis
EqSeed operates a regulated (CVM Resolution 88) equity crowdfunding platform that lets individuals invest in Brazilian startups screened through a selective process approving under 1% of applicants. Investors buy equity stakes online, with rounds needing to reach a minimum target for the investment to complete; capital is then transferred directly to the company. The platform emphasizes portfolio diversification given the high-risk, low-liquidity, binary nature of startup investing, where returns come via M&A, future rounds, or IPO exits. For founders, EqSeed enables online fundraising rounds of up to R$15 million for companies with annual gross revenue up to R$40 million, offering support throughout the process.

4DI Ventures was co-founded by repeat tech operator and ESET Southern Africa founder Justin Stanford, giving it unusually deep cybersecurity and software operating experience rather than a purely financial background, and originated from Stanford's own angel-investing experiments that directly led to both the firm's creation and the launch of the Silicon Cape Initiative. The firm explicitly describes its style as "nurture capital" with intensive, hands-on engagement, and Stanford is vocal about avoiding the "unicorn at all costs" mentality in African tech, instead emphasizing sustainable market readiness and fundamentals in a more conservative, durability-focused investment approach.
