Investment thesis
Deeptech Seed Fund focuses on spinout-stage deeptech ventures commercializing defensible intellectual property that have already established early connections with potential customers and shown clear signs of global demand. It targets companies considered too early for traditional investors, aiming to bridge the gap between research and market readiness. Beyond providing its own capital, the fund offers access to a network of international later-stage investors to help ensure promising ventures are well-funded from the outset. It uses a proprietary ScoreCard to quantify the level of pre-revenue commitment a venture has secured, enabling it to identify high-potential deeptech companies earlier than others.

Thomas Burnice is a partner at Deeptech Seed Fund with over 40 years of experience in high technology, including CEO roles at iVivity, Voelker Technology, and Rutilus Software, and senior management positions at Digital Equipment Corporation, Maxtor, and COPAN Systems. He has spent more than 15 years as an independent consultant advising over 50 companies and conducting due diligence for investors, with expertise in strategy development, business planning, fundraising, and M&A. Burnice holds degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota and Arizona State University, and completed the MIT Sloan School's Senior Executive program.
Co-founder with over 40 years in high technology, including CEO roles at iVivity, Voelker Technology and Rutilus Software, chairman of Ciprico, and senior positions at Digital Equipment Corporation, Maxtor and COPAN Systems.
Solo GP of the fund who has served as founding CEO, first investor, or first head of sales at 11 tech ventures, six of which scaled or exited successfully.
