Technology

The product portfolio is built around packaged and cloud-delivered ERP. AI Works is a cloud-based ERP applying machine learning to operational log data to predict and automate tasks, delivering a personal assistant to each employee. The HUE suite covers accounting, purchasing and procurement and business process management; HUE Chatbot uses retrieval-augmented generation with generative AI; and ArielAirOne serves as a groupware and business application development platform. Internal R&D functions include the Advanced Technology & Engineering Division (2008) and the WAP Tokushima Laboratory of AI and NLP (2017). Public-facing web properties use technologies including Cloudflare, Apache, Mustache, Swiper and PyScript.

Go-to-market

The company sells packaged ERP software directly to large Japanese and international enterprises, supported by maintenance, upgrades and IT consulting. It supplements direct sales with partnerships: a 2023 tie-up with HeartCore Enterprises and AIM Consulting on digital auditing solutions, and a 2024 strategic business alliance with IFS Japan around 2-tier and composable ERP. Product marketing includes a public HUE website with downloadable materials, and industry recognition such as ITreview Grid Awards is used as external validation.

Headquartered in Tokyo (1-12-1 Kojimachi, Chiyoda-ku, in the Sumitomo Real Estate Fukuoka Hanzomon Building), with divisions reported in New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, Shanghai, Chennai and Tokyo, and countries of operation listed as Japan, Singapore, Australia, Thailand and Vietnam. Singapore-based legal entities include Works Applications Singapore Pte. Ltd. and DataOutput Pte. Ltd.; Infoview Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian subsidiary. A research laboratory for AI and NLP was established in Tokushima, Japan.

History

Founded on 24 July 1996 in Tokyo, the company launched its COMPANY HR series in September 1996 and expanded the COMPANY line through the 2000s with web services (2001), assignment and project management (2002), a knowledge information portal (2003), the AC series and learning management (2004), SCM (2009) and EC (2010) modules. It listed on the JASDAQ market under code 4329 in December 2001 and remained listed until June 2011. An Advanced Technology & Engineering Division was created in 2008; in 2014 the company announced the AI-based ERP system AI Works and shipped LaKeel Messenger. India-based Infoview Technologies was consolidated in 2015 and subsidiary Ariel Networks in July 2016, followed by the establishment of the WAP Tokushima Laboratory of AI and NLP in February 2017. The Singapore entity, Works Applications Singapore Pte. Ltd., was established in 2013. In September 2017 the business was acquired by private equity investor ACA Investments, having previously been held by two private investors.
