Timefold

Timefold is a developer platform that delivers scheduling and routing optimization as REST APIs for field service and workforce management software. Its off-the-shelf models cover Field Service Routing (assigning customer visits to vehicles), Employee Shift Scheduling (assigning employees to shifts under availability, cost, compliance and satisfaction objectives), Pick-up and Delivery Routing (assigning jobs to drivers) and Task Scheduling (assigning jobs to machines and/or employees to minimize makespan). The APIs are stateless and JSON-based, so customers send a planning problem from their existing stack and receive an optimized plan back without migrating systems.

The products are built on Timefold Solver, an Apache-2.0 licensed constraint satisfaction engine for Java and Kotlin that was forked from OptaPlanner on 20 April 2023 and is developed by the original OptaPlanner team. The solver is distributed in a Community Edition (open source) and a non-open-source Timefold Solver Enterprise edition that requires a commercial license, while the Timefold platform provides hosted access to the models via REST, along with orchestration, weighted-constraint optimization goals and related tooling.

The company positions deterministic solver output against probabilistic LLM-generated schedules, arguing that mission-critical rosters and routes must be correct, compliant and reproducible. It states enterprise security posture including SOC 2, ISO 27001:2022 and GDPR.
