ReviewTailor

ReviewTailor is an Atlanta-based HR technology company that builds performance management software intended to make performance reviews simple, automated and collaborative. The platform gives managers tools to track team progress, give feedback and make data-informed decisions; gives employees a place to document their work, set goals and see their career trajectory; and gives HR administrators visibility into where the company stands in the review cycle, along with reporting and trend identification. Performance notes are captured continuously by both employees and managers, and an AI-enabled drafting function generates a review draft in roughly six to eight seconds that can then be edited before it is finalized.

Alongside its B2B platform, the company launched a single-user option aimed at employees whose employers do not use ReviewTailor, allowing individuals to sign up, track their performance in real time and generate reviews they can share or transfer into their employer's own performance review module. More recently the company has promoted Career Companion by ReviewTailor, a product framed around professionals owning their career data — tracking accomplishments, quantifying impact and using that record to advocate for promotions and other opportunities. Career Companion is presented to four audiences: individual professionals, career coaches working with clients, professional development organizations serving members, and corporate employers offering it as an employee benefit.

The company positions equity in the workplace as a core objective, embedding features meant to prompt inclusive behaviors and performance management best practices and allowing a written review to be sent back for reconsideration in order to counter recency bias, halo/horn effects and affinity bias.

Founding story

Co-founder Laneisha Roberts spent her career in corporate leadership roles in the pharmaceutical industry, moved to Atlanta in 2016 and started a consumer app in 2018. Drawing on more than 13 years in people management, she had long tracked her own accomplishments in a spreadsheet for review season; when a manager wrote her review without that documentation and omitted key accomplishments, she used her own notes to argue successfully for a better rating and higher compensation. She connected with Kristin Bell, who had worked in HR for about a decade, through a mutual Facebook group, and after identifying a gap in HR tech for a better performance review platform the two began building ReviewTailor.

Business model

ReviewTailor sells performance management software in two forms: a business solution licensed to companies and a single-user offering purchased directly by individual employees. The company has also described distribution through career coaches, professional development organizations and corporate employers offering the Career Companion product as an employee benefit.

Paid software sold to companies as a business solution and to individuals through a single-user subscription offering; the company has secured paying customers of both.

Traction

Since the MVP launch in June 2023 the company completed a pilot study, secured paying customers for both its Business Solution and Single-User offering, approached 100 users, and was onboarding additional customers. It was accepted into the Atlanta Tech Village Pre-accelerator and then the Techstars Equitech Accelerator. The company's site cites use by professionals from Fortune 500 companies.

The company has been preparing a new B2C platform launch, recruiting a project manager to coordinate pre- and post-launch execution, and markets Career Companion by ReviewTailor to professionals, career coaches, professional development organizations and corporate employers.
