Company profile

researched Aug 2026

DART (Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System) is the electronic disclosure system operated by South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). Companies subject to regulatory filing requirements submit disclosure documents online through DART, where the filings become immediately available to investors and other users. The system covers periodic reports (annual, semi-annual and quarterly reports), reports on major issues, issuance and equity disclosures, other filings, external audit reports, fund disclosures, asset securitization filings, exchange disclosures administered by the Korea Exchange, and disclosures administered by the Korea Fair Trade Commission.

The public interface at dart.fss.or.kr provides integrated disclosure search, search by company, fund disclosure search, advanced search, recently corrected and recently deleted filings, company profiles, public offering information (including an offering bulletin, issuance disclosure search, offering and sales performance, and an equity-securities subscription calendar), and category-based search of periodic report items such as business overview, management analysis, auditor opinions, officers and employees, executive compensation, summary and consolidated/separate financial statements, dividends, funding and use of proceeds, governance, largest shareholder, board, audit system, shareholder meetings, related-party transactions and affiliates. Listings of latest filings are broken out by KOSPI, KOSDAQ, KONEX and other corporations, with additional streams for 5%/executive shareholding reports and fund disclosures, plus most-viewed documents and RSS feeds.

An English-language site (englishdart.fss.or.kr) offers search of English disclosure documents voluntarily transmitted to DART and the Korea Exchange along with corporate information available in English from the Korea Listed Companies Association, XBRL financial statements, and user-friendly queries by company name, industry, fiscal year and reporting form. Open DART (engopendart.fss.or.kr) redistributes disclosure information for direct reuse via Open API, XBRL, Excel and text formats, with authentication keys, developer guides, and services covering key information from periodic reports, financial information, consolidated equity disclosure information, key information from major-issue reports and securities registration statements, and bulk downloads of financial data and notes.

Business model

DART is operated by the Financial Supervisory Service as public disclosure infrastructure rather than a commercial product: issuers file electronically and users access filings free over the internet, with Open DART providing free reuse of disclosure data subject to registration for an authentication key.

Latest developments

The FSS ran a DART user survey from July 14 to August 1, 2025 to gather user feedback on the service. Open DART published notices of temporary service restrictions for system maintenance in August 2026, and API update notices for key information from periodic reports and major-issue reports in May and July 2026. Corporate disclosure form preparation standards took effect on July 23, July 28 and August 3, 2026, and FSS press releases in August 2026 addressed securities registration statement review policy, July 2026 direct financing statistics, and support for disclosure document preparation by pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

β–ΈFull profile β€” market position, technology, go-to-market, geography, history

Market position

DART is the official regulatory disclosure channel of Korea's Financial Supervisory Service, consolidating filings that would otherwise be submitted separately to bodies such as the Korea Exchange and the KICPA.

Single-filing electronic submission that replaces physical visits and duplicate filings to multiple organizations, immediate public availability of disclosures, lower filing and retrieval costs, and open redistribution of structured disclosure and XBRL data.

Technology

Web-based electronic filing and retrieval system with a DART Editor for preparing filings, XBRL-based financial statement disclosure (K-GAAP-based from 2007 and K-IFRS-based from 2010), XML and other modern technologies applied in a 2008 functionality upgrade, mobile access, RSS, integrated search, a backup center in operation since 2004, and Open API distribution of disclosure data in Open API, XBRL, Excel and text formats.

Go-to-market

Access is provided through public websites (dart.fss.or.kr, englishdart.fss.or.kr and the Open DART portal), supported by user guides, video guides, FAQs, notices, press releases and encouragement of listed companies to voluntarily file English-language disclosures.

Companies subject to Korean regulatory disclosure requirements (KOSPI, KOSDAQ, KONEX and other corporations, funds and securitization vehicles) as filers, and investors, including foreign investors, analysts, developers and the general public as information users.

Geography

Based in Seoul, South Korea, at 38 Yeouidae-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu (Financial Supervisory Service), serving domestic and foreign users, with a dedicated English-language site aimed at foreign investors.

History

A plan for an electronic disclosure system was prepared in November 1997; in February 1998 it was selected as one of the hundred goals of the Korean government, a master plan followed in April 1998, and development began in August 1998 under the name DART. The system launched in April 1999 with annual, semi-annual and audit reports for listed companies, was extended in March 2000 to all disclosures by listed companies, and offline filing was eliminated in January 2001. Consolidated disclosure across the Stock Market and KOSDAQ divisions began in July 2002, the system was designated a major information and communications system in November 2002, and a backup center began operating in January 2004. It was chosen as an outstanding innovation by the FSC/FSS in June 2006 and recognized as one of ten Leading Brands of the Korean Government in November 2006. Subsequent milestones include the English DART (February 2007), K-GAAP-based XBRL disclosure (October 2007), an XML-based functionality upgrade (November 2008), changes reflecting the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act (February 2009), K-IFRS-based XBRL disclosure (October 2010), integrated search (February 2011), Mobile DART (May 2012), DART Open API (August 2013), New DART Editor (May 2014), DART RSS (July 2015), Customized DART (June 2016) and Open DART (April 2020).
