Code Ocean

Code Ocean operates a cloud-based computational research platform used by enterprises, academic researchers and discovery teams to create, organize and share the code, data, computing environment and results behind a research project. The central unit of the platform is the Compute Capsule, a container technology that bundles metadata, code, data and environment so that a computational experiment can be preserved, reproduced, reused and shared. The platform is language agnostic and provides cloud workstations for RStudio, Jupyter, Terminal, MATLAB and Shiny, and automates the use of underlying open-source tooling such as Docker, git repositories and Nextflow.

The product includes capsules and pipelines, data assets, collections, apps, MLflow and model management, an activity center, Git provider integration and a public API, along with agent-oriented functionality (Aqua & Agents). In its earlier positioning the platform offered researchers and developers a way to share, discover and run code published in academic journals and conferences, with published software code and data openly accessible to view and download and executable in the cloud on CPUs or GPUs without local installation.
