CH4 Global

CH4 Global, Inc. is a climate technology company focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from animal agriculture using Asparagopsis, a red seaweed containing bromoform, which inhibits methane formation in the rumen. Its commercial product line, Methane Tamer, is a feed supplement containing whole Asparagopsis seaweed; the company states the product reduces enteric methane emissions by up to 90% and is guaranteed to deliver at least a 70% reduction throughout its shelf life, while also reducing feed energy lost to enteric fermentation. The first formulation was introduced in 2023 and is targeted at beef feedlot cattle, with additional formulations planned for other ruminant applications including beef and dairy operations, grazing dairies, and extensively managed cattle.

The company operates an end-to-end platform spanning Asparagopsis aquaculture, processing, formulation, packaging and distribution. Production is anchored in Australia through subsidiary CH4 Australia, which runs facilities at Arno Bay and Green Patch and manufacturing at Lonsdale outside Adelaide, and is developing the company's EcoPark concept at Louth. The EcoPark model uses covered outdoor land-based ponds — described as 160,000-litre ponds engineered for current and light penetration — rather than ocean cultivation or smaller tank systems, which management says lowers cost of goods relative to competing approaches. A New Zealand entity, CH4 Aotearoa, expanded R&D operations and opened an Auckland office in December 2021.

CH4 Global's stated objective is to abate more than 1 gigatonne of CO2-equivalent, framed around reaching 150 million cattle (about 10% of the global herd) over ten years. The company publishes a sustainability framework built on five pillars (GHG reduction, materials management, water use, renewable energy, and animal/people/land welfare) and reports that an early-stage life cycle assessment of its Australian operations found Methane Tamer abates more emissions than it creates, with a full Scope 3 analysis underway.
