bitdrift builds an observability platform focused on mobile applications. Its Capture product pairs a lightweight SDK for Android, iOS and React Native with a control plane, so engineering teams can capture rich on-device telemetry — logs, network context, app state changes and crash reports — and decide remotely what is uploaded. Founding story

bitdrift originated inside Lyft, where Matt Klein spent eight years building infrastructure including Envoy. For about a year and a half he developed a new business unit at Lyft aimed at commercializing infrastructure components, an effort that acquired its first external customers. Concluding that the opportunity needed to be independent, Klein and co-founders Pete Morelli and Martin Conte Mac Donell spun the effort out, and Klein announced the independent entity named bitdrift in June 2023. The company started with a team of nine, including six people from Lyft, and initially remained in stealth while working with design partners.
