Founding story

Co-founder and CEO Shikhar Shrestha was robbed at age 12; a security camera captured the incident but no officer intervened, which he cites as the origin of his view that physical security is fundamentally reactive because there is too much activity and too few people to monitor it. Shrestha studied at Stanford, where he met Vikesh Khanna, and the two founded Ambient.ai to apply AI-driven computer vision to physical security. The company's About page and press release date the founding to 2017, while its own AI-info page states 2016. Both founders are described as AI researchers from Stanford who previously worked on products at Apple, Google, Microsoft and Dropbox; Khanna, now CTO, previously built software at Dropbox and Microsoft.
