Robert Noyce co-invented the integrated circuit, co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957 and Intel in 1968, and was the figure most responsible for Silicon Valley's founding culture of flat hierarchy and equity-for-employees. Known as the Mayor of Silicon Valley, he mentored a generation including Steve Jobs. He died in 1990.
