About
Marcelo Lebre is the engineer behind a global employment platform that reached a $3 billion valuation three years after launch. He co-founded Remote in 2019 with Job van der Voort — their second attempt together, after a startup they began in 2012 ran out of money within three months — and built and led its engineering organisation as chief technology officer before becoming chief operating officer and then president. Remote runs its own legal entities across dozens of countries so that companies can hire abroad without incorporating there, handling payroll, benefits and employment law country by country, and it raised $300 million led by SoftBank in April 2022. He began as a telecommunications and networking researcher in Portugal, publishing eight papers, and was vice-president of engineering at Unbabel before Remote.
