Larry Ellison co-founded Oracle in 1977 on the insight that IBM's relational-database research paper described a commercial product nobody was building, and served as CEO until 2014 — one of the longest tenures in enterprise software. He made Oracle the dominant database company through aggressive sales and a decade of consolidation acquisitions including PeopleSoft, Siebel and Sun. He is Chairman and CTO and a major backer of Tesla.
