Joseph Hayes is a Professor of Psychiatry and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the Division of Psychiatry, UCL, and holds honorary roles as a consultant psychiatrist in the North London NHS Foundation Trust and public health consultant at the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities. He studied medicine at the University of Bristol, trained in psychiatry in Oxford and North London, and holds an MSc in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in psychiatric epidemiology. His research uses large electronic health records and register data to study the causes, treatment, and prognosis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and he co-founded juli Health, serves as a consultant for Swiss Re, and is an associate editor of the British Journal of Psychiatry and the International Journal of Bipolar Disorders.
