John Powderly founded the Carolina BioOncology Institute in 2005, an independent phase I cancer center in Huntersville, NC, that includes a Human Applications Lab for manufacturing cellular therapies and has opened more than 160 early phase clinical trials. His research in early phase immunotherapy has resulted in over 270 publications and abstract presentations in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and he serves as an adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke and UNC. He received the David King Community Scientist Award from the Association of Community Cancer Centers in 2014 and is developing an autologous adaptive immune cell therapy platform with BioCytics Human Applications Lab.
