Jim Breyer

Founded

Breyer founded Breyer Capital in 2006, a global equity investor focused on high-impact social and for-profit entrepreneurs. Breyer co-founded Accel-KKR, a joint venture between Accel Partners and KKR, in 2000/2001.

Boards

Breyer was elected a fellow of the Harvard Corporation, Harvard University's senior governing board, in February 2013. Breyer serves on the Board of the Dean's Advisors of the Harvard Business School and is a founding member of the Harvard University Global Advisory Council. Breyer is past chairman and remains a board member of the Tsinghua University Advisory Board for the School of Economics and Management. Breyer is a member of the University of Texas President's Innovation Board. Breyer serves as Chairman of the Stanford University Engineering Venture Fund and is on the board of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program. Breyer is a Trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a Trustee of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Breyer is a Trustee of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles and of Stanford's Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society. Breyer serves on the University of Texas Dell Medical School Strategic Advisory Board.

Charities

Breyer has a long-standing interest in conservation and is a member of the Environmental Defense Fund, The Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, and Trout Unlimited.

Communities

Breyer is an advisor and supporter of Celtics United for Social Justice, an organization addressing racial injustice and social inequities in the Greater Boston area. Breyer is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and several World Economic Forum committees.

Awards

Breyer received the Silicon Valley Forum's Visionary Award in 2012. Breyer was named a Baker Scholar at Harvard Business School, graduating in the top 5% of his class.

Hobbies

Breyer is a minority owner of the Boston Celtics since 2001. Breyer is interested in golf, flyfishing, and art, and taught in 2022 at the Stanford-in-Florence Breyer Center for Renaissance Studies.

Family

Breyer was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Hungarian immigrants; his father was an engineer and IDG executive and his mother was an executive at Honeywell. Breyer's wife, Angela Chao, was a Member of the Chairman's Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Breyer studied his junior year in Florence, Italy, and is active in Stanford's Breyer Center for Overseas Studies in Florence. Breyer helped found the Stanford HAI program focused on the future of AI in 2019.
