the closed-stack bet has always rested on one thing, the gap between frontier and open weights staying wide. k3 just put the biggest model ever released on the open side of it, at a fraction of the cost. you can argue the benchmarks either way. the bet got narrower regardless

a pattern i keep seeing across ai-native startups: nobody budgets for review. codegen made writing nearly free, so review quietly became the biggest slice of engineering time, and it still shows up on zero dashboards. the next devtools wave gets funded exactly there.
