A retired Army colonel and physician, he directed the Combat Casualty Care Research Program at the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command from 2008 to 2014 and later coordinated its Brain Health/Fitness Research Program, after serving as Command Surgeon for Multinational Force Iraq and Chief of Preventive Medicine Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He has worked as an independent brain health consultant since 2015 and completed the I-Corps @ NIH program in 2019.
