Chris Freund studied psychology, economics, and eastern religion at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and spent time in a Buddhist Studies program in Bodh Gaya, India. After graduating in 1995, he joined Templeton as its first employee in Vietnam, opening the firm's Ho Chi Minh City office to research investment opportunities. He later became a Portfolio Manager in Singapore, evaluating technology company investments in Taiwan and Israel before setting out to pioneer a more hands-on investing model in Vietnam.
