Bob Miner co-founded Oracle with Larry Ellison and Ed Oates in 1977 and wrote much of the original Oracle database code, serving as the company's chief technologist through its rise to dominance in relational databases. Colleagues credited him as the technical conscience of the early company. He stepped back from day-to-day work in 1993 and died in 1994.
