Investment thesis
The Startup Index seeks to back every high-potential startup founded by Yale affiliates, including undergraduate, graduate, professional school, and faculty founders. It requires the founder to be a major shareholder working full-time, a minimum fundraise of $450K with at least half from non-family investors, and 12 months of runway post-financing. Portfolio companies gain access to Yale-affiliated investors, top-tier venture capital, mentorship from experienced Yale founders, and follow-on or SPV co-investment opportunities. As part of its mission to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, the fund donates 100% of its carry proceeds to Yale-affiliated nonprofits.
