Investment thesis
The firm manages hedge funds and managed accounts using a quantitative, behavioral-finance-based approach inspired by computational neuroscience. Its short-term, primarily contrarian strategy trades the world's largest and most liquid equity, fixed income, foreign exchange and commodity markets. The underlying principle is that markets are predictable in the short term because participant behavior is driven by emotional biases such as greed and fear, giving the strategy a distinctive 'long realized volatility' profile. Founder of R. G. Niederhoffer Capital Management (1993) and leader of its Management Committee, with nearly 35 years of hedge fund experience. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in 1987 in Computational Neuroscience and began his career founding a computer game company as a teenager.
With the firm since its 1993 inception and a member of the Management Committee, he leads a team of traders implementing the investment strategy and has over 30 years of industry experience. He previously worked at the COMEX exchange and NCZ Commodities and holds a BS from NYU.
Joined the firm in 2002 and leads research into nonlinear pattern recognition methods for building trading systems. He holds a PhD in Physics from UCLA and previously worked at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory.
