Investment thesis
Breathe Capital invests in early-stage, tech-centric companies in India (and SE Asia), from formation round up to Series A, typically 6-18 months before a Series A where it can foresee at least a 2x valuation step-up. It is sector-agnostic but requires a verifiable TAM of $5 billion or more. The firm evaluates founders on domain expertise, integrity and agency, the quality of co-investors, early traction, scalable unit economics, velocity to competitive barriers, and a clear exit path to IPO, M&A or secondary sale within 4-7 years. It aims to back 25-30 companies and be a leading shareholder through Series A, supporting founders with sourcing, diligence, capital raising, reporting, community and ancillary services.

4DI Ventures was co-founded by repeat tech operator and ESET Southern Africa founder Justin Stanford, giving it unusually deep cybersecurity and software operating experience rather than a purely financial background, and originated from Stanford's own angel-investing experiments that directly led to both the firm's creation and the launch of the Silicon Cape Initiative. The firm explicitly describes its style as "nurture capital" with intensive, hands-on engagement, and Stanford is vocal about avoiding the "unicorn at all costs" mentality in African tech, instead emphasizing sustainable market readiness and fundamentals in a more conservative, durability-focused investment approach.
