What is burn rate?

Burn rate is how much cash a company loses per month. Gross burn counts all spending; net burn subtracts revenue — net burn is what shortens the runway.

Burn is judged against what it buys: 'burn multiple' (cash burned per dollar of net new ARR) has become a standard efficiency lens. Investors read rising burn with flat growth as the classic warning.
