Alumni Q&A
- How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?)
- The founder started their first company in Romania at 21 and spent the following decade building multiple products. Waydev grew out of the difficulty they experienced trying to measure engineering output using system data rather than subjective dashboards.
- How did you decide to apply to Y Combinator? What was your experience applying, going through the batch, and fundraising at demo day?
- The founder applied to Y Combinator 13 times before being accepted. During the batch the team focused on moving faster, simplifying messaging, and talking to customers daily, and raised capital at Demo Day.
- How have you kept in touch with the YC community and continued to use YC resources & programs since the batch ended?
- The founders stay involved in the YC community through Bookface, exchanging notes with other B2B and infrastructure founders, and receive customer and partner referrals through YC. They also use YC's forums and templates for fundraising, hiring, and pricing.
- What's the history of your company from getting started until the present day? What were the big inflection points?
- Waydev began as a tool for analyzing Git activity and expanded toward deeper insights and enterprise scale. Milestones included signing Fortune 500 customers, adding integrations with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps, and building enterprise features such as SSO and RBAC. They later launched Waydev AI, a conversational layer for querying engineering insights without dashboards.
- What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?
- The founders address the difficulty of measuring engineering, where leaders often rely on anecdotal feedback and siloed or lagging metrics. Waydev turns system data into a unified intelligence layer, a problem the founder encountered firsthand and observed across many teams.
- What is your long-term vision? If you truly succeed, what will be different about the world?
- The founders aim to build an intelligence engine for engineering organizations so companies can understand engineering health as clearly as revenue or churn, with Waydev answering what is happening in engineering and what to do next.
