Alumni Q&A
- How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?)
- The idea came to founder Fulcher in October 2012 during a bus trip from Jakarta to Bogor, when he saw a woman using a low-cost Android phone to stream video while lacking access to basic sanitation and medical care, prompting the question of whether doctors could reach patients over mobile video. He began coding on the bus, built a prototype, and went door to door at hospitals and clinics in Singapore to sign up physicians; the first version was a directory of doctors listing photos, consultation prices, and professional background.
- What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?
- The founders are addressing a lack of access to affordable healthcare, noting that more than 3 billion people worldwide still lack it. RingMD works with governments to support their public health programs and extend their reach.
