Founding story

The founding team developed the first NATO cyber range in 2015, the platform used to deliver the inaugural Locked Shields exercise, described by NATO as the most complex live-fire cyber resilience exercise in the world. Having observed the benefits of live exercising first-hand, the founders set out to make realistic team training more widely available, arguing that advances in automation and cloud computing made large-scale simulated compromised environments — with rotating IP addresses, application traffic and lateral movement — economically feasible for a mass market. RangeForce was founded in Tallinn, Estonia by Taavi Must, Margus Ernits and Jaanus Kink.

In September 2025 RangeForce was acquired by Cyberbit, a Boston-based attack simulation platform company. The companies said the deal expands Cyberbit's live-fire exercise catalog and joint content library, enhances AI capabilities and user experience, and broadens coverage for commercial, enterprise and government customers, including compliance-oriented simulations supported by US and EU data centers. Integration was described as still underway.
