How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?): The founder previously led inference at Mistral AI, where the team built its API and inference products and the founder built Le Chat's Deep Research; earlier they spent five years at Airbnb building Hosting Services from scratch into a global product. At Mistral they built inference in-house because no independent European provider could handle their scale, and observed that in Europe inference is typically a secondary product sold alongside VMs or specific models. They started Munito to offer the best open models, run in Europe, behind a familiar API.
What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?: The founders are addressing European companies that want to use top open models at scale while retaining privacy and control over where data is processed, which is currently difficult because most large providers are not European and EU processing is often an add-on rather than the default. Munito provides open models at scale with inference and storage in the EU, no data retention, and no training on customer data, without requiring companies to run their own GPUs. The founder encountered this problem directly while building inference in-house at Mistral.
What is your long-term vision? If you truly succeed, what will be different about the world?: The founders aim to let anyone building with AI run the best open models privately in a region of their choosing, without depending on a single cloud or model lab. Munito rents GPUs across multiple vetted data centers and clouds and is building a self-improving inference stack intended to make running open models faster and cheaper over time.
