Minerva

Minerva (trading as Minerva Fabrics) is a UK-based retailer of dressmaking fabrics, sewing patterns and haberdashery aimed at home sewists and dressmakers. Its fabric range is organised around popular basecloths including jersey, challis, lawn, poplin, satin, denim, crepe and chiffon, and includes an ex-designer deadstock collection made up of textiles left unsold by mills or left over from brands' production runs, which the company positions both as a way to obtain designer textiles and to divert fabric from landfill. Alongside third-party fabrics and patterns, Minerva sells print-on-demand fabrics carrying its own exclusive prints across base cloths such as viscose challis, denim twill, cotton jersey, linen viscose, cotton poplin, cotton lawn, silky satin, ponte roma and sweatshirt.

The company also publishes its own sewing patterns. Minerva Exclusive Patterns are developed and tested with designers, dressmakers and pattern testers, with each style graded in two size groups: A–J (bust 78–106cm, drafted for a B cup) and K–T (bust 104–150cm, drafted for a D cup). Recent additions include the Tallula Jumpsuit. Minerva is the exclusive home of the Now and Then Patterns brand of vintage-style paper patterns in UK sizes, and operates a PDF Pattern Shop offering downloadable digital patterns from third-party brands, its own exclusive designs and a Minerva with McCall's collaboration. Fabric collections are also produced with individual artists and makers, including the Tammy Handmade range, a 10-design collection by artist Melissa Lowry drawing on her South American heritage, and Terrance Williams' Tropical Paradise collection of 10 prints for summer 2026.

Business model

Direct-to-consumer retail of fabrics, sewing patterns, dressmaking kits and haberdashery, sold online with UK and international shipping and through a physical store. Revenue is supplemented by own-brand and collaborative product lines (Minerva Exclusive Patterns, print-on-demand exclusive prints, licensed pattern brands) and by a paid membership, the Minerva Craft Club, which gives members 10% off all orders for 12 months. Some digital PDF patterns, including the Minerva with McCall's collection, are given away free in exchange for account registration and newsletter sign-up.

Product sales of fabric by the metre, paper and PDF sewing patterns, kits and haberdashery, plus subscription fees for the Minerva Craft Club discount membership.
