Technology

Metsakuur states that all components — AI engine, middleware and encryption — are developed internally. The facial recognition pipeline captures live video with automatic lighting and angle correction, detects faces including multiple subjects, applies liveness checks against photo, video and mask attacks, encodes facial features into a 512-dimension vector, and performs 1:1 and 1:N cosine-similarity matching returning results within 0.06 seconds. Anti-spoofing uses AI forgery detection trained on roughly 20,000 fake-real data items with a five-layer defense and RGB-camera-based fake blocking. Security architecture includes distributed biometric information management passed at the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute's performance review, end-to-end encryption between client and server modules, and TOTP-based dynamic key rotation. Dedicated middleware optimized for the UFACE server system manages biometric registration, storage and verification with distributed processing for large transaction volumes at tens-of-millions scale. Deployment spans Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, mobile, PC, IoT and edge devices, and on-premise or cloud environments.

History

Metsakuur Company was founded in 2020, establishing a corporate research institute and beginning face recognition AI R&D; in the same year it signed a face recognition AI supply agreement with Hana Bank and commercialized face recognition in Korea's first-tier banking sector, and expanded into applications such as online exam monitoring and industrial site access control. In 2021 it raised a Series A of KRW 8 billion, was selected as a face recognition technology supplier for KOMSCO's mobile ID program, and had a 1:10 million face comparison speed of about 0.06 seconds verified under KOLAS evaluation. In 2022 it obtained KISA biometric performance testing certification with 100% face recognition accuracy, passed TTA's three-stage face anti-spoofing security verification, and its face recognition technology was applied to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's mobile driver's license service. In 2023 it signed MOUs with Epika and with Gwangju Metropolitan City on building an AI industry ecosystem, cooperated with a Lao mobile finance company on face recognition mobile services, and released iJANUS OTM 2.0. In 2024 it won the Prime Minister's Award at the 19th Korea Internet Awards hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT, was selected for the second cohort of the Hana Bank–SK Telecom AI Accelerator, and was selected for KB Financial Group's KB Starters. In 2025 it was selected in the third cohort of K-Fintech 30 by the Financial Services Commission and Korea Fintech Center, participated in GITEX Global 2025 to expand in the Middle East, and had UFACE v3.0 designated an Excellent Procurement Product by the Public Procurement Service.
