MDaaS Global

MDaaS Global is a healthtech company that builds and operates tech-enabled diagnostic clinics under the BeaconHealth Diagnostics brand, primarily in Nigeria and, since 2024, in Cameroon. Its centers provide imaging (digital x-ray, ultrasound), cardiac services (ECG, echocardiography) and laboratory services spanning chemistry analysis, immunoassay and hematology, with chest x-ray, urinalysis and full blood count among the most frequently performed procedures. The company describes four lines of work: clinics, technology, logistics (secure handling and transport of samples and consumables) and public health (distribution and data).

The technology layer is BeaconOS, a proprietary platform described as an operating system for the company's own and affiliate diagnostic facilities, giving visibility into day-to-day center operations and handling patient visits and clinical results. Applications built on BeaconOS include Olewerk for diagnostic workflow optimization and Beam, a partner-facing product for corporate occupational health management. SentinelX is a preventive-care product, originally consumer-facing, that the company repositioned toward corporate customers for annual employee screenings, pre-employment screenings and government-mandated screenings. Founding story

The concept originated from CEO Oluwasoga Oni's childhood exposure to his father's rural Nigerian hospital and the difficulty such hospitals faced acquiring and maintaining medical equipment such as x-ray machines and ultrasound scanners. While studying in MIT's System Design and Management program in 2015, a class assignment to design a business capable of impacting a billion lives became the blueprint for the company. Oni co-founded MDaaS in January 2016 with MIT classmate Joe McCord, his partner Genevieve Barnard Oni, and operations lead Opeyemi Ologun. The name originally stood for "Medical Devices as a Service", reflecting an initial model of selling and leasing refurbished medical equipment to small hospitals; when clinics proved unable to fund purchases, the company pivoted to building its own diagnostic centers in underserved communities.

Business model

MDaaS owns and operates diagnostic centers and extends reach through affiliate clinics that connect into its BeaconOS platform, supported by in-house logistics for samples and consumables. Revenue comes from diagnostic imaging, cardiac and laboratory services delivered to individual patients, from corporate clients purchasing annual, pre-employment and government-mandated employee screenings via SentinelX and Beam, and from referrals routed through partner clinicians, hospitals, pharmacies and HMOs. The company has said it tapped new dollar revenue sources in 2023 in response to naira devaluation.

Fee-for-service diagnostics at owned and affiliate clinics, corporate screening contracts (including one-time annual access fees under SentinelX), and HMO-reimbursed testing.

The website reports 650,000+ patients served, 1,300+ clinical partners, an NPS of 93 and presence in 25+ cities. In 2023 the company served 108,724 patients (60.8% women) and performed over 240,000 diagnostic tests, maintaining an NPS above 90 and a 4.7-star average Google rating across 18 locations; cumulative patients served passed 250,000 at end-2023 and 275,000 by March 2024, with the company reporting 500,000 patients and over one million tests in 2025. It works with over 1,300 referring clinicians across more than 1,000 organizations and 34 HMOs. Headcount reached 200 after onboarding 66 people in 2023.

Latest developments

In March 2024 MDaaS announced a $3 million pre-Series A round co-led by Aruwa Capital Management and Newtown Partners with follow-on from Ventures Platform, bringing total investment to $6.8 million, to build out BeaconOS and extend the clinic network to all 36 Nigerian states. In 2024 it opened five new centers, including its first outside Nigeria in Douala, Cameroon, and launched Beam. In 2025 it opened seven further sites, launched Lucent and Hazel AI, raised a pre-Series A round, and reported reaching 500,000 patients served and more than one million tests performed.
