Company profile
researched Sep 2026Kwambio is a 3D printing company focused on ceramics, operating a platform for customisable, on-demand manufactured homewares, accessories and art created with designers and manufacturers. Customers use the company's software to personalise designs by form, size, material and finish, with production carried out in ceramics and metals. The company's website presents 3D printers, printing materials and customer support as its offering, together with a ceramic 3D printing service and a portfolio of case studies covering vases, sculptures, kitchenware, homeware, musical instruments and design objects produced for individual designers and studios.
Beyond the marketplace, Kwambio developed hardware and materials. It is credited with a patented Ceramic Binder Jetting (CBJ) technology intended to produce high-precision objects without visible layer lines, with the development and presentation of a desktop ceramic 3D printer, and with an extension into bioprinting of biodegradable bone implants through the A.D.A.M. spin-off. A stated goal was to establish a US manufacturing facility and move operations and sales to the US market. Press reporting in January 2021 described extended non-payment of staff, lawsuits from former employees and investors in Ukraine and the USA, and that the Kwambio printer had not reached the market.
Business model
Kwambio operated an on-demand manufacturing platform: customers configured designer objects online and the company produced them in ceramics and metals, with participating designers receiving 70% of the revenue generated by each customisation of their products. Alongside the marketplace, the company developed and sold its own ceramic 3D printers and printing materials, taking pre-orders for machines secured with 10% deposits, and offered a ceramic 3D printing service for designers, artists and studios.

History
Founded in 2014 and described at launch as a Boston-born startup, Kwambio opened its customisable 3D printing marketplace in August 2015 after joining the Techstars 2015 Summer class. Accounts of the founding team differ: one report names Vlad (Volodymyr) Usov and Dmitriy Krivoshey as 2014 co-founders, while another states Usov formed the company in 2015 with Dmitry Skomorokhov joining as co-founder in 2016. The company launched its own 3D printer in 2015, then a laboratory dedicated to ceramics and metals 3D printing, previewed a ceramics 3D printer at CES 2018 and two more at CES 2019, and in 2019 spun off A.D.A.M. Company to work on 3D printed implantable bone. Offices were established in Connecticut, New York and Ukraine. From late 2019 onward, former employees reported delayed and then suspended wages; the company was reported as not operating since March 2020, with staff unpaid since September 2020, while management said it was negotiating new investment to relaunch production and settle debts. Usov left in November 2019 to head Ukraine's State Space Agency.
