Friend

Friend.tech is a blockchain-based social network, described by its coverage as a decentralized social (DeSo) application, in which users buy and sell "keys" — originally called "shares" — tied to X (formerly Twitter) accounts. Holding a key grants access to that user's private in-app chatroom and exclusive content, so each participant effectively functions as a tradable social token whose price reflects perceived credibility and network strength. The platform has marketed itself as "the marketplace for your friends." The app was built as a dApp on Base, the Coinbase-associated layer-2 network, and launched in August 2023 in an invite-only beta stage that drove demand for invite codes. The team behind it has been attributed to X users oxRacerAlt and Shrimppepe, and associated with the earlier project Stealcam.

The live web application exposes sections for Keys, Clubs, People, an "LP" section, and a Connect flow, along with profile and club editing (name, description, picture URI, and Discord, Telegram and X links) and a key search function. A FRIEND token exists on Base (contract beginning 0x0bd…f86670), tracked by CoinGecko under the SocialFi and Base Native categories, and trades on decentralized exchanges, with BunnySwap's FRIEND/WETH pair cited as the most active market.

Commentary at launch also flagged security, privacy and scam-related concerns around the app, and its trajectory was described as an early surge, reports of decline, and a subsequent renewed surge in popularity.
