Defendec

Defendec (Defendec OÜ, reg. no. 11306995) develops autonomous intrusion detection systems for remote borders and perimeters. The system combines rugged, camouflageable battery-powered devices, a proprietary low-power wireless mesh network, and AI-based image analysis to generate alarms with limited human intervention. A Detector unit is a battery-powered camera triggered by a PIR or tamper sensor, with a detection range of up to 35 m, Full HD imaging, internal secure solid-state storage for more than 1,800 RAW images, a 10,200 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery rated for up to 400 days or 50,000 incidents, 500 m line-of-sight short-range radio, and dimensions of 8.5 x 12 x 10 cm. The Bridge is a multi-frequency radio transceiver gateway linking Detectors to the Command Centre over 2G/3G/4G mobile networks or proprietary 869/915 MHz long-range radio, with end-to-end encrypted data transfer, four 10,200 mAh batteries and dimensions of 9.5 x 7.5 x 24.5 cm. The cloud Command Centre handles alarm information, device configuration and AI object detection, and can be hosted on the company's public servers or on a private server; command centre software can also be run on tablets or in vehicles.

Operationally, a PIR sensor detects movement, the camera captures an image, the image is transmitted to the cloud Command Centre by GSM or long-range radio, and AI object detection classifies people or vehicles, adding movement, direction and speed estimates before raising an alarm. The company states the mesh network supports up to eight hops, that installation of one Detector and one Bridge takes about two minutes, and that Full HD images are combined into a video-like view. Defendec states it does in-house software and hardware design and production and that its technology is patented. Its stated vision is to automate border protection, law enforcement and security processes so that human involvement is minimal.
