Decorte Future Industries

Decorte Future Industries (DFI) is a UK-based deep tech company that builds machine learning systems which extract health data from sound captured by standard microphones. Its core technology is the Sound-based Natural Understanding System (SoNUS), described by the company as the first commercial sound-to-health machine learning system, developed from 2023 onwards. The models are designed to screen for heart, breathing, brain and gut conditions, and earlier descriptions of the company's Sonus Engine cite real-time analysis of health metrics relevant to cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems, depression and anxiety.

The company's first commercially available product is Sonus Health, an app that allows ordinary smartphones to perform health and heart scans of animals, which the company positions as equivalent in standard to auscultation performed by specialists in clinic. Sonus Health launched in January 2026 with an initial focus on animal health and the veterinary sector, and the company states it is used in veterinary clinics internationally. Alongside the veterinary product, DFI pursues human health applications, reporting paid services delivered under NDA to, among others, one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers, and clinical trials and studies in the US, EU and India.

DFI's approach shifted over time from custom hardware to consumer devices: it built an exoskeleton-derived smart-shirt prototype (Mark I, 2020-2021) and a compact button-style device (Mark II, 2022) used primarily to build a proprietary end-to-end training database, before refocusing in 2024 on running its models on standard smartphone microphones.

Founding story

The company originated in work by Dr Roeland P-J E Decorte, who spent two years independently developing exoskeleton systems for human health monitoring in his spare room before incorporating Decorte Future Industries in August 2019 as its sole founder. The early exoskeleton work was endorsed by the UK Ministry of Defence, after which he redirected the technology in 2020 from defence toward accessible, large-scale health screening.

Business model

DFI develops proprietary sound-based AI models and delivers them to end users through software running on consumer hardware. The commercial entry point is the Sonus Health app for veterinary clinics, while on the human health side the company has performed paid, NDA-covered engagements for large corporate clients.
