Company profile

researched Sep 2026

Damon (also operating as Damon Motors Inc. and later Damon Inc.) was a Vancouver, British Columbia company founded in 2017 by Jay Giraud and Dominique "Dom" Kwong. It began as Damon X Labs, developing hardware-and-software collision-safety technology for motorcycles — a forward-facing radar and camera, side radar for blind spots and a rear camera displayed between the handlebars, with haptic alerts through the handlebars — before pivoting to designing its own high-performance electric motorcycles.

The flagship HyperSport, unveiled at CES 2020, was promoted with claims of over 200 hp, 200 Nm of torque from zero rpm, a 200 mph top speed and more than 200 highway miles of range, alongside CoPilot, a 360-degree advanced warning system; Shift/ShiftCon, an electronically adjustable riding position changing between sport and commuter modes; and HyperDrive, a multi-variant electric powertrain platform intended to underpin an entire model line. A naked variant, the HyperFighter, followed. HyperSport trims were listed at MSRPs from $16,995 (SE) to $39,995 (Premier), and by the time of the Nasdaq listing, HyperSport and HyperFighter prices started at roughly $23,000 and $22,000.

After its November 2024 Nasdaq IPO, Damon repositioned around four stated revenue verticals — Data Intelligence & Services, Engineering Services, Personal Mobility Products and Special Projects — emphasizing an asset-light model built on partnerships with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. No production motorcycle was ever delivered. The share price collapsed, trading was suspended on May 20, 2025 and the shares were delisted, moving to the OTC Pink market as DMNIF. In March 2026 the board, including CEO Dom Kwong and CFO Bal Bhullar, resigned, and damon.com went offline in April 2026 while the investor-relations site remained accessible.

Founding story

Jay Giraud, a serial entrepreneur who had previously founded an electric-car technology startup in 2008 and the connected-car company Mojio in 2012, turned to motorcycle safety after repeated close calls riding his Ducati around Vancouver and after experiencing traffic in Jakarta. He connected with Dom Kwong, a veteran Vancouver hardware engineer, and the two co-founded Damon Motors Inc., initially billed as Damon X Labs, in 2017 to build technology that would give riders additional warning of hazards.

Business model

Damon originally planned to sell safety technology to motorcycle fleet operators and license or supply it to motorcycle manufacturers for factory integration, then moved to designing and selling its own electric motorcycles, which it said would ship direct to customers on subscription plans to drive scale. After the Nasdaq listing the company described an asset-light model spanning four potential revenue verticals — Data Intelligence & Services, Engineering Services, Personal Mobility Products and Special Projects — leaning on strategic partnerships with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

Planned revenue sources included direct-to-consumer motorcycle sales and subscription plans, reservation deposits on pre-production models, technology licensing and factory integration with motorcycle manufacturers, and, after 2024, engineering services and data intelligence offerings. No production motorcycle was delivered to a customer.

Traction

More than 3,000 reservations were placed for the HyperSport and HyperFighter, described variously as over US$100 million and over C$100 million in pre-orders; the company reported $20 million in preorders and nearly 1,000 motorcycles sold, including sell-outs of limited-edition HyperSport models, as of March 2021. Reported deposits were fully refundable per the company's former CMO. No production motorcycle was ever delivered to a customer; in December 2025 the HyperSport Race prototype was described as 70% complete.

Latest developments

Damon closed a $16.5 million upsized underwritten public offering in March 2025, then had its Nasdaq listing suspended on May 20, 2025 and was delisted, moving to OTC Pink as DMNIF. It attended EICMA 2025 in Milan in November 2025 and held investor webinars in November 2025 and January 2026. In December 2025 it reported the HyperSport Race prototype at 70% completion. On March 2, 2026 it was reported that the entire board, including CEO Dom Kwong and CFO Bal Bhullar, had resigned; damon.com went offline in April 2026 and was still returning HTTP 404 in July 2026, while the investor-relations site remained live with its most recent press release dated February 23, 2026 (a board update) following a February 9, 2026 CFO transition announcement.

▸Full profile — market position, technology, go-to-market, geography, history, risks & controversies

Market position

Damon positioned itself as an early leader in motorcycle safety technology within what it described as a $90 billion motorcycle industry, and later as a contender in the electric two-wheeler market, citing a $40 billion global electric two-wheeler opportunity by 2030 and, in investor communications, a $200 billion global market. It won CES 2020 Best of Innovation and CES Innovation Awards for CoPilot and ShiftCon, Robb Report's Best of the Best of Auto Innovation 2020, Popular Science Best of What's New and Red Herring Top 100 North America. Despite roughly 3,000 reservations and extensive press attention, it never reached production, and coverage in 2025-2026 characterized it as a high-profile failure that generated excitement without delivering vehicles.

Damon argued that conventional automotive ADAS does not account for the 'cageless' conditions and vehicle dynamics of motorcycles, and built detection algorithms and haptic alerts specific to riders. Its combination of the CoPilot 360-degree warning system, the Shift/ShiftCon adjustable riding position and the HyperDrive multi-variant electric powertrain platform, plus a self-learning cloud-to-bike update loop and a patent portfolio, was presented as its distinguishing position against both incumbent OEMs and electric rivals.

Technology

Damon's core technology was CoPilot (earlier branded AWSM, the Advanced Warning System for Motorcycles), a 360-degree advanced warning system using sensor fusion, robotics and AI with forward radar and camera, side radar for blind spots and a rear camera, combining forward, side and rear detection algorithms into a bird's-eye view and alerting the rider through the handlebars. Collision scenarios were recorded and transmitted over cellular connectivity to a cloud platform where an AI engine retrained algorithms and pushed updates back to the bike's onboard processor. Other systems included Shift/ShiftCon, electronically adjustable handlebars and foot pegs that change the riding position mid-ride between sport and commuter modes, and HyperDrive, described as a fully electric multi-variant powertrain platform intended for line extension across models. The company's investor materials cite an AI-driven mobility IP portfolio valued at $171.4 million.

Go-to-market

Damon used high-visibility product launches and trade shows (CES 2020, EICMA 2025), industry awards, demo tours and a direct-to-consumer reservation and subscription model, taking refundable deposits on HyperSport and HyperFighter models. Early financing used equity crowdfunding platforms (SeedInvest in the US and FrontFundr in Canada), and after listing on Nasdaq the company ran investor webinars and an investor-relations program alongside partnership-led distribution of its technology.

Initially motorcycle fleet operators — police and proactive policing units, ambulatory services, ride-hailing and courier delivery fleets — plus motorcycle OEMs evaluating the technology for factory integration. With the HyperSport and HyperFighter, the target shifted to individual performance and commuter motorcycle riders in North America and Europe, and later to OEM and Tier 1 partners for engineering and data services.

Geography

Headquartered and engineered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with demand reported in North America and Europe, a US Nasdaq listing and subsequent OTC Pink quotation, and trade-show presence in Milan (EICMA 2025). A planned production facility in British Columbia was reportedly abandoned in 2023.

History

Damon was founded in Vancouver in 2017 as Damon X Labs, focused on retrofittable motorcycle collision-warning technology and licensing to manufacturers. By 2019 it had a prototype system fitted to a bike in a small Vancouver space, had raised $2.4 million and was preparing a seed round via the equity crowdfunding platforms SeedInvest and FrontFundr; a $2.5 million seed round including Round 13 Capital, Techstars, Extreme Venture Partners and Pallasite Ventures was announced in June 2019. The HyperSport electric motorcycle launched at CES 2020, followed by a bridge round of more than $30 million announced in March 2021 and a Series B reported at $37.9 million in 2021, with a 2022 Series B led by House of Lithium also reported. Damon began work on a British Columbia production facility but reportedly abandoned it in 2023, went through layoffs and missed production deadlines repeatedly. It listed on Nasdaq as DMN in November 2024; founder-CEO Jay Giraud departed in December 2024 and Kwong became interim CEO. A $16.5 million underwritten public offering closed in March 2025, but Nasdaq suspended trading on May 20, 2025 and delisted the shares, which moved to OTC Pink as DMNIF. In December 2025 the company said its HyperSport Race prototype was 70% complete. The board, CEO and CFO resigned in March 2026, and damon.com went offline in April 2026.

Risks & controversies

Reporting in 2025-2026 described layoffs without public acknowledgement, repeatedly missed production deadlines, a quietly abandoned British Columbia production facility, and display models built with undisclosed parts borrowed from competitors including a Zero Motorcycles power pack and a Yamaha R1 frame. Executives were characterized as creating a chaotic working environment. The shares fell below US$0.01 and were delisted from Nasdaq in May 2025; by early 2026 only two employees were listed on the company website and both co-founders and the CTO had departed. Three lawsuits were reported, none proven in court: one by co-founder Jay Giraud over an unpaid bonus and backpay, one alleging failure to issue $3.2 million in shares to an advisor, and one alleging $376,000 in unpaid Vancouver office rent. With leadership gone and communications offline, the mechanism for refunding more than 3,000 customer deposits was unclear. Company filings cited a history of losses and going-concern risk.
