Cryptoadz

CrypToadz is a non-fungible token collection on the Ethereum blockchain consisting of 6,969 pixel-art profile pictures of amphibious creatures, framed by a narrative in which the toadz attempt to escape the rule of the "Evil King Gremplin" and inhabit a swampy basin called "Uniswamp," a reference to the decentralized exchange Uniswap. Each token carries distinguishing traits across categories such as background, body, clothes, eyes, head, mouth, accessories and name. The ERC-721 contract (symbol TOADZ) is deployed at 0x1CB1A5e65610AEFF2551A50f76a87a7d3fB649C6, is verified on Etherscan under the contract name "Toadz", and reports a maximum total supply of roughly 7,022–7,025 tokens held by about 3,485 addresses.

The collection was created by the pseudonymous digital artist Gremplin, previously associated with the Nouns collection, working with eight other pseudonymous artists (BN89, Cat, Chanzero, Dinfo, Emmy, Heeeee, Motivateme and Sum1). The creator waived copyright over the artwork, placing the collection in the public domain so that anyone may build derivative works and products from the images. Beyond the core drop, the project has issued limited-edition follow-ons, including MistleToadz, a holiday-themed collection of 4,046 NFTs claimable by CrypToadz holders, and it has donated to environmental causes.

Founding story

The OpenSea account for CrypToadz was created by Gremplin in July 2021. The launch date of 8 September 2021 was kept quiet until Noah Davis of Christie's alluded to the upcoming drop on Twitter; the collection went live that evening at a mint price of 0.069 ETH per piece.

Business model

The project distributes artwork as ERC-721 tokens minted by collectors; the smart contract includes a payment splitter for distributing proceeds. Marketplace data list a 0% creator fee on OpenSea and Blur, and the artwork itself is placed in the public domain rather than licensed.

Initial proceeds came from the public mint at 0.069 ETH per token; secondary-market creator fees are listed at 0% on OpenSea and Blur.
