Alumni Q&A
- How did your company get started? (i.e., How did the founders meet? How did you come up with the idea? How did you decide to be a founder?)
- The company began with five chief orthopedic and trauma surgeons seeking better access to information their teams use daily. The three founders had worked together for years, with backgrounds in AI, biomedical engineering, and product development.
- How did you decide to apply to Y Combinator? What was your experience applying, going through the batch, and fundraising at demo day?
- The founders met Tom Blomfield at a YC event at ETH Zurich, a conversation that led them to build CONUS full time and apply to YC.
- What's the history of your company from getting started until the present day? What were the big inflection points?
- The company started by consolidating surgical information into one platform, then added a product called CONUS Intelligence. It is now live in 17 European hospitals, works with manufacturers including Stryker and Zimmer Biomet, and is expanding into the US.
- What is the core problem you are solving? Why is this a big problem? What made you decide to work on it?
- Medical device knowledge is spread across manufacturer PDFs, portals, and hospital systems, leaving clinicians and field teams searching disconnected sources. As product portfolios and hospital-specific protocols grow, finding reliable answers becomes harder for both device users and the companies supporting them.
- What is your long-term vision? If you truly succeed, what will be different about the world?
- The founders aim for CONUS to become the knowledge infrastructure linking medical device companies and clinical teams worldwide, making product and clinical information retrievable in seconds across specialties and locations.
