Altitude AI

Altitude AI develops a generative AI platform for industrial automation engineering, aimed at system integrators and original equipment manufacturers. The platform's AI agents read, analyze, draft, review, critique and refine the artifacts used in control projects: proposals, functional specifications, operator manuals, spreadsheets, electrical and mechanical drawings, PLC and robot code, and test documentation. Document features include generation and one-click validation of control documents, extraction of I/O and module information from electrical drawings, and creation of an instrumentation index from an uploaded P&ID.

On the code side, the product analyzes PLC tags, modules and logic to surface issues and connections, generates production-ready logic along with modules, tasks, tags and datatypes, shows change diffs for precision edits, and adds explanatory comments. Output can be conformed to common manufacturing standards, a customer's internal standard, or patterns inferred from example code and example documents supplied by the user. The company positions the system for large, complex projects involving thousands of rungs of logic, hundreds of routines and large drawing packages, and states it saves more than 50% of the time spent on these tasks.

Founding story

Altitude AI was founded in 2021 by Ed Walker to apply AI to industrial automation projects the company describes as navigable only by highly experienced engineers because of their scale and complexity. Walker previously worked on autonomous vehicles at Waymo, Google's self-driving car project, and on autonomous construction equipment at Built Robotics, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University with a computer science thesis on AI for Amazon's robotics systems.
